Emmaus St. Leo’s OCFC is saddened by the passing of former player and committee member Brendan Bourke.

Bourke played 91 games for the Animals between 1975 and 1983 across the Seniors, Reserves and Thirds and featured in 5 finals as well.

Bourke in 1980 was also the first Captain/Coach of the Animals Club XIII side, and was third in Best and Fairest voting for the year. He kept the captaincy role for the 1981 season.

The association with the club did not end after his playing days were over, with his support often heard during Animals matches. Many will fondly remember his support from the sidelines which was as boisterous as it was hilarious.

Bourke was also able to use his connections in the business world to help assist the club, with the acquisition of white goods and a large amount of chairs.

Sadly, Brendan’s illness has prevented him from attending more recent matches, and his presence is missed by many.

Everyone from Emmaus St. Leo’s OCFC wishes to pass on their deepest condolences to the family and friends on Brendan Bourke, and the club will wear black armbands on the weekend as a mark of respect.

Vale Brendan Bourke.
